Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie Announced for October Premiere
It was revealed on Saturday that the Toei Space Sheriff Gavan tokusatsu series would receive a film titled Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie. The original Space Sheriff Gavan series was the first title in Toei’s Space Sheriff line of television shows, and aired from 1982 to 1983.
Yuma Ishigaki will star in the film as Geki Jumonji alongside Kenji Ohba, who reprises his role as Retsu Ichijouji, the protagonist of the original Gavan. Ohba also played the role of Retsu in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie, which premiered earlier this year.
Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie is slated to open in Japanese theaters October 20.

Keishi Ōtomo is directing this adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga with 22-year-old actor Takeru Satoh (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck, Ryōmaden) as the titular character. 17-year-old actress Emi Takei plays the heroine Kaoru Kamiya. Yuu Aoi (Hana and Alice, Honey and Clover) plays Megumi Takani, Munetaka Aoki (The Last Message Umizaru, live-action The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) plays Sanosuke Sagara, and Taketo Tanaka plays Yahiko Myōjin. Kouji Kikkawa (Let’s Dance With Papa) as Jine Udō, Yosuke Eguchi (Shonan Bakusozoku, Tokyo Love Story) as Hajime Saitō, and Teruyuki Kagawa (From Up On Poppy Hill, 20th Century Boys) as Kanryū Takeda round out the cast.
The film will open in Japan on August 25.

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga began streaming a 60-second television commercial on Friday. The ad features the theme song “The Beginning” by the rock band ONE OK ROCK.

“Hakuro” Ending theme song by Gackt. Video & Info
The official website for Sengoku Basara -Moonlight Party-, the first live-action television show based on CAPCOM’s historical action game franchise Sengoku Basara, began streaming a trailer on Wednesday. The video features the ending theme song “Hakuro” by actor/singer Gackt.
Kento Hayashi (Arakawa Under the Bridge) and Kōhei Takeda (Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e: Ikemen Paradise, Kamen Rider Kiva) lead the cast as Date Masamune and Sanada Yukimura, respectively. In addition to providing the ending theme, GACKT (Fûrin Kazan, New Fist of the North Star, Tono to Issho, Shiki) stars as Oda Nobunaga. (Historical Japanese names are listed family name first, while modern names are listed family name last.)
The show will premiere on July 12 on MBS, and it will run every Thursday night at 1:25 a.m. (effectively early Friday morning).

Utilizing the latest in CGI, the next chapter in the Starship Troopers franchise finds Johnny Rico, Captain Ibanez and Carl Jenkins on a dangerous mission to rescue survivors of a Federation outpost that’s under attack by the bugs. It’s an ugly planet — a bug planet!

Series star Casper Van Dien returns as executive producer alongside Ed Neumeier, screenwriter of the original film. Shinji Aramaki, the director of Halo Legends, Appleseed and Appleseed Ex-Machina, helms Starship Troopers: Invasion, which will be released on Blu-ray and DVD with UltraViolet.
The discs will feature filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes and an 11-part Making Of featurette that reveals how the film was created via a mix of animation, motion capture and compositing. The Blu-ray also features an exclusive conceptual art gallery, showcasing the original designs of the movie’s ships, alien bugs and more.
Here’s the official synopsis of the film: “The troopers of two starships have joined forces to terminate a massive bug attack at a federation outpost. Before the mission can be completed and the survivors evacuated, one ship abruptly departs and goes inexplicably dark. The remaining battle-hardened troopers race to the rescue, only to discover that the threat from the bugs is about to hit home.”
