Hi World, Gunjap Interviews Today with Toymaker !!! Let’s Start!
[G: Gunjap]
[T: Toymaker]
G – Who is Toymaker in the Gunpla Modelers World? And where do you come from?
T – My real name is Kenny and I’m from Singapore. Who am I in the Gunpla Modelers World? Just like the many hobbyists out there, I’m enjoy this hobby and likes to connect with same mindedness people around the world.
G – When did you start building Gunpla?
And when did you made your first Custom?
T – I started this hobby in 2002 with the purchase of a airbrush/compressor set with my first ever paycheck! But way before that, I was collecting Super Deformeds (SD) and some other robots.
Well, my first real custom was a Green Sazabi dubbed as “Wasabi” by many. It was based on Motoo Osumi’s Land Battle use Sazabi but mine was absolutely horrible. But hey, you have to stay some where you know, LOL.
G – Do you have some inspiration for your creations?
T – My inspirations are from literally everywhere. In my early days, I looked a hobby magazines for ideas. I follow the works of some japanese modelers and notably, Motoo Osumi. He is like the pioneer when it comes to customization in the old days. I also gained a lot from my mentor, Leon Ku who personally coached me and inspired me with his works. He was definitely ahead of his time when it comes to conceptualizing and modifications. And I am glad he took me in.
G – After you have finished snap-fitting a model, from where do you start to mod it?
T – The modification part actually starts before assembly. And it’s at the conceptualizing stage. Here, I have to come up with a theme, a diorama and have an rough idea of what I want. Then this idea will become slowly evolved as I assembles the kit. So you can say that I have it played out in my head before I start to pick up that knife.
G – What do you think about Gunpla in all the World? modelers, attitude, modelers behavior etc..
T – Everybody is the same. We all started this hobby because we like Gunpla. And that’s that. It doesn’t matter which country you hail from, what language you speaks. Because Gunpla is the universal language. And it is what that brings everyone together. Sometimes a modeler’s pride can get in the way of enjoying his hobby, and tempers and tenson boil over… It happens to me too! But at the end of the day we are all just GUNPLARERS, so let’s work on that model kit!
G – What do you think about GBWC Event?
T – Well, it’s the event every modeler is looking forward to on the calender every year! Because it is the time where you pit yourself against the best and also to showcase your hard work to the world. The event was well organized over the years but in recent times, I feel that it has fallen behind, as far as my country is concerned. The organizing committee should seek to listen to feed backs and improve. Ultimately, the modelers promote Bandai products and each and every one of them should be treated with respect. The same goes with their works.
G – Please some advices for modelers that wanna start building a gunpla for the very first time!
T – Be inquisitive and curious. Have an insatiable appetite for learning new things. And never stops even when you achieved your target. There are bound to be areas to be improved. Always treat fellow modelers with respect and keep your egos in check (that’s a pretty hard thing to do for me sometimes, LOL). And don’t be afraid to damage kits for the sake of experimenting.
G – Have you a Website/Blog to show your Works?
T – I have a blog since 2006 http://toymakerinc.blogspot.sg/ and my facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/pages/Toymaker/313017475018
G – Future Projects?
T – Oh yes, lots of projects on my hand right now. I am currently working on a PG Perfect Strike and Sazabi Version Ka. And I am looking to create a mecha series I can call my own in the future.
And finally I want to thank Gunjap for giving me this opportunity to talk about myself and I glad to be part of the committee. It has been a real honor to be invited.
Once again, thank you very much for the invite bro! Thumbs up!
G – Many Thanks to Toymaker for this Interview
See You soon for the next!
