Hi World, Gunjap Interviews today with Marc Meyer [Decay]. Let’s Start!

[G: Gunjap]
[M: Marc Meyer]

G – Who is Marc Meyer in the Gunpla Modelers World? And where do you come from?

M – First of all Hello to everyone. Just so there is no confusion, my entire name is Marc William Meyer and on the forums I go by the name Decay. I am from Munich, Germany.I love to Build Mechs/Gundams, Paint Warhammer 40k Miniatures and collect Hot Toys/Sideshow figures. I have always been a great fan of Sci Fi Movies so most of my stuff is from that part of the genres.

G – When did you start building Gunpla?
And when did you made your first Custom?

M -I started back in 2009 a friend of mine picked up a Issue of Hobby Japan and thought that I might like it. Little did he know that I would go totally crazy about it. I searched the internet to find where I could get these kits, as it was almost impossible to get them over here. There was only one store here that had them and only 2 kits, very unsatisfying.
My first customization was the Master Grade EX-s. I think this was in 2010, after I found a blog by no other than DC23.

G – Do you have some inspiration for your creations?

M – My first Inspiration was Don Suratos aka DC23 and Matt Tomczek. I was blown away by their builds it was like the most awsome thing I hade ever seen. Soon others followed Toymaker, ver.ED, Matt Mrozek, Mr.Gav, Kamm,Julius Lim, Singelmedia, Luca Zampriolo and so many more. Sometimes it’s just a feeling I have or a Movie. All these things come together and I try to take that and integrate it in to my work.

G – After you have finished snap-fitting a model, from where do you start to mod it?

M -For some reason most of the time it’s the skirt, don’t know why and never really thought about it. In my mind I always see a silhouette of what I want to do. When I feel that I have accomplished that, I start with the details.

G – What do you think about Gunpla in all the World? modelers, attitude, modelers behavior etc..

M -The community is very friendly which I find to be very unique. I have made so many friends all over the world, who enjoy the same things as I do. People are always ready to help one another and to pass knowledge onto others.I think that modellers are great people who love to create things and live in harmony with their inner child. Of course you have a few exceptions but these are minimal and in most cases just people that haven’t made peace with themselves.

G – What do you think about GBWC Event?

M -Sadly I can’t say too much about. We don’t have it over here and we don’t really have a way of entering. I am sure that many Europeans would love to enter. From what I have seen, it is a cool event to be a part of.

G – Please some advices for modelers that wanna start building a gunpla for the very first time!

M – Get a kit that you like and just start snap fitting it. If you like it and want to do more, enter a forum, look at W.I.P’s, research, ask questions. Don’t worry about doing mistakes, it happen to all of us. Set yourself a goal that seems hard to achieve. If you don’t like modifying your kit, you don’t have to you are making it for yourself not others. And most of all have fun doing it, if you don’t, then this hobby is not for you.

G – Have you a Website/Blog to show your Works?

M – Yes my Blog is http://decay-miniature-model-arts.blogspot.de/

G – Future Projects?

M – Yes, like many others I carry a big backlog. I am working on my first PG kit the Strike freedom. I am also working on a Frame Arms kit and have 3 more Dioramas planned. I can’t say more as I am very impulsive when it comes to modeling.

Thank you very much Gunjap, it was a real honor to do this interview with you. I wish you all the best and hope that you keep up this amazing Blog.

G – Many Thanks to Marc Meyer [Decay] for this Interview ;-)
See You soon for the next!
