This time we introduce a review of MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka

MG Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka review and comparison

MG Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka is a 1/100 scale model kit completely supervised by Mr. Hajime Katoki of MS “Wing Gundam Zero” that appears in “New Mobile Report Gundam W Endless Waltz”. Reproduce the characteristic body shape with biological wings with completely new modeling. By thoroughly verifying the joint mechanism and deformation mechanism, it is a kit that realizes an expansion of the range of motion and smooth deformation to the neobird form. The price is 6,050 yen (tax included).

The molding colors are mainly two metallic blue colors and a clean matte white, and some red and yellow colors are used. The interior and joint parts are grouped in gray molding color. The seal only supplements the sensor of each part. There is almost no need for painting, and the finish is sufficient with bare assembly.

Undergates are used for parts such as the exterior of each part and the back wing to make the gate marks as inconspicuous as possible.

No poly cap is used. ABS is used where strength is required, and KPS is used for joints and internal parts. Joint strength is reasonably high. Since it is equipped with a wing peculiar to the back, specific gravity is applied to the rear, but if the wings are arranged in a well-balanced manner, it is possible to stand on its own.

Shield, twin buster rifle, beam saber blade ☓2, joint parts for atmospheric entry mode, joint parts for neo-bird form, 2 types of joint parts for display, finger parts (for flat hands: left and right, for weapon holders: left and right, for grip hands: Left and right), figures are included.

Comes with a dark gray molded color slide lock action base.

Some extra parts are included.

Includes water slide decals. It’s a nice consideration for painters. There is no special emblem, but many caution type markings are included.
Let’s take a look at each part while comparing it with MG Wing Gundam Zero EW (MG Wing Gundam Zero EW & Special Coating, hereafter, MG version released from P-Bandai.

Compare the head with the MG version. At first glance, there is not much difference, but the impression is that the mold of each part is deep and sophisticated. The mat part is a left and right sandwich type, but the seam of the back of the head is stepped down and molded.

The sensors on the front and back of the twin eyes and combs are color-coded with stickers attached to the clear parts.

The side wings can be deployed for the Zero system. It is made with sharpness such as being finely color-coded with separate parts.

Torso. It has a fairly detailed parts composition, and the armor of the air intake and the antenna of the chest plate are also color-coded with separate parts. Including the rear armor, the feeling of modeling density is different compared to the MG version.

Chest internal frame. Since the left and right armor are composed of exterior parts, the internal frame is simple. The search eye is a specification that puts a green sticker and covers it with dome-shaped clear parts.

The armor on the shoulder can be opened and closed. Unfolding exposes the internal machine cannon. The machine cannon can be pulled out to the front, or it can be turned to the top.

The cockpit hatch can be opened and closed toward you.
The chest armor can be slid. The range of motion of the arm is expanded, and you can reproduce a more natural pose with a twin buster rifle held in both hands.

The side armor can be widely deployed by the arm, like the neo-bird form deformation.

The crotch part slides back and forth to increase the range of motion of the legs.

The back of the waist armor has backing parts for each part. Every detail is carefully made.
Compare the arms side by side with the MG version. There is no big change in the form here either, but the mold is finely shaped, and the shoulder armor and forearm armor are also realistically color-coded by parts.

Arm internal frame.
The upper arm is tubular and has no seams. Both the white and blue armor of the forearm are sandwiched between the left and right, but the seams are molded by stepping down. Only the thumb is movable for the hand parts, and the remaining 4 fingers are recombinable.
The forearm is rollable.

By sliding the armor of the forearm, the joint part for stably holding the twin buster rifle is exposed. However, please note that it will not deploy if the forearm is rolled. The red wing on the side can also be stored. The sensor is color-coded with a green sticker on the clear parts.

The shoulder armor is also mechanically made with a mold. The three pieces of armor are also color-coded by parts and can be deployed and stored. I’m a little worried that there will be seams on the sides of the internal frame.

leg. Although it is slender, it is mechanically made, such as the armor of each part is divided into small parts. The mold of each part is also color-coded according to the balance with the internal parts.

Internal frame of the legs. Since the runner tag is printed with “MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero Ver.Ka”, it may be that the diversion of the internal frame is not particularly considered.

The thigh is a type that is sandwiched between the front and back, but it is not a concept of a seam because it has a structure that expands when the knee is bent. Armor on the left and right of the calf and armor on the Achilles part can be deployed. It is made with particular attention.

When the knee is bent, the thigh and knee armor are also deployed. By deploying the calf armor, you can bend your knees completely.
The sole is also mechanically made. The rear armor is deployable.
The toes can be fully extended for deformation, and the toes can also be warped.

The wing reproduces a unique biological shape. It seems that the balance with the main body is also good.

Compare the large feathers side by side with the MG version. The form itself does not change so much, but the amount of details on the back side has also increased. In the MG version, the small feathers are made of rubber and are easy to loosen, and when they come off, you can’t tell where they are, but this one will not come off at all due to the KPS parts configuration. Since the combination strength is high, it seems better to make it easier to disassemble in advance when disassembling later by temporary assembly.

The base of the small blade can be moved flexibly with a ball joint connection. It can be deployed in various directions.
The upper wing has a gear structure in the center, so if you unfold one side, the other will also unfold.
The arm for the buster rifle mount is modeled inside.

The arm for the large blade is a combination of multiple parts, and can be flexibly moved by connecting with a ball joint or swinging.

The rear wings are entirely made of KPS material. The left and right sandwich type allows you to make a seam as a whole. Since it is an undergate specification, you need to be careful not to forget to cut it and create a gap at the seam.
The internal wing can be expanded.

The arm is a left and right sandwich type, but the seams are molded by stepping down. A saber holder is modeled at the base of the wing. It is unfolded toward you, making it easy to take out.

The backpack is a simple box type. The hard point for connecting the arm of the wing is shaped. Since it has a deformation mechanism, it can be deployed with an arm. It can be mounted on the rear armor.

Compare the whole body side by side with MG Wing Gundam Zero EW & [Special Coating]). The proportions aren’t that big of a difference, but the details of each part are quite different. The MG version was a lot messy and the placement of the wings was unstable. The small wings made of rubber are also frequently used.

Compare even with the wings removed. The size seems to be a little different, and Ver.Ka seems to be made a little larger. By the way, the shape of the base is slightly different, so it seems that it is not possible to replace the wings and recombined.

Side by side with the high resolution Wing Gundam Zero EW. The high resolution has a lot of arrangements.
The vertical movement of the head is reasonable. It doesn’t seem to move very widely. You can swing left and right without interference.

The arm can be raised to the horizontal. The elbow can be completely bent.
The shoulders can be pulled forward and can be swung widely.
The abdomen is movable and the upper body can be bent forward, but it is hardly movable backward and it seems that the upper body cannot be bent.

Since the central part of the rear armor interferes, the rotation of the waist is up to about 45 degrees. For the action base and stand, remove the thruster parts of the rear armor and attach the joint parts to make a display. Since there is no connection part such as 3.0 mm axis in the joint parts, it seems that the stand to be displayed is limited to the action base etc.

Both front and rear legs can be widely deployed. The waist armor does not pop.

The ankle can be relaxed a little by deploying Achilles armor, but it seems that it can hardly swing back and forth. Swing to the left and right is reasonable.

The legs can be opened to the left and right not horizontally, but they can be expanded to some extent.

Since a movable gimmick is added to the crotch part, it is possible to move like crossing the legs.

The thigh and crotch are likely to interfere, but if you do not interfere with the base of the leg, the inner thigh can swing widely with both crotch.
I was able to easily reproduce the standing knee.
As a summary of the range of motion, it seems that various poses can be produced because the range of motion of each part is sufficiently secured while having such a sense of precision. The joint strength is high and there is no lump, so I wonder if I can enjoy posing with confidence. However, since the structure of the crotch part is complicated, I want to avoid moving it too much and damaging it.

Compare the range of motion side by side with the MG version. The MG version also has a wide range of motion, but the width of the legs to the left and right is significantly different.

Twin buster rifle. It is a double-barreled buster rifle that consists of two buster rifles and can be connected in parallel.
Each part is molded by stepping down, etc., so that there is no seam. The sensor is color-coded with a green sticker. No clear parts are used.

At the rear, a joint for mounting on the forearm is shaped and stored in a different direction. When holding both hands with a twin buster rifle, turn it downward so that it can be mounted on the forearm, and expand the joint part to fix it to the forearm.
The grip can be stowed and the side armor can also be deployed for connection.

Connect to make a twin buster rifle. The connection strength is reasonable, and I wonder if there is no problem with equipping it normally.
Unfold the armor on the side and fold the barrel for storage. The sensor and power pipe can also be moved. Put back the armor on the unfolded side.

The buster rifle can be stored in the wing by folding it from the center. The barrel part is fixed with an arm, but the fixing strength is not very high. However, the muzzle part is also fixed a little, so it seems that it will not come off in particular.

shield. Each part is finely color-coded by parts.

The left and right wings can be deployed. The sensor is color-coded with a green sticker on the clear parts.

Each part can be deployed for deformation, such as the central arm and connection part.

It is fixed by sliding to the forearm, but the fixing strength does not seem to be very high, and depending on the angle of the arm, it may slip off from the rear, so be careful. The forearm was rollable even with the shield equipped.

Yuy figure. It is modeled in a tank top pose in the OP of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

The holding strength of the Buster rifle is not high, and there is some instability in holding. The grip and finger parts are fixed with dowels, but the fixing strength is weak, so it can be held with the strength of the thumb. Therefore, it seems that it will be difficult to hold the Buster rifle if your thumb is dented. Even if I hold one, I wonder if it can be held without problems if it is jointed to the forearm.

Since the joint parts to the stand are square, if you want to change the angle of the kit slightly, you need to use the joint parts that come with the action base.

Since the Twin Buster Rifle can be fixed to the forearm, it can be held firmly. Since the shoulders slide, you can easily reproduce the last shooting scene like the scene in the play. You can enjoy highly reproducible poses as if you were watching the main story.

The beam saber blade is a clear green molding color. Since the grip is fixed to the dowel, it can be held firmly. Since the strength of each part of the joint is high, it is easy to pose without any lumps even if you move it unexpectedly.

In atmospheric entry mode, pull the shoulder armor outward and lower it. And attach the joint parts to the front armor.
The large blades expand forward and connect to the joint parts. Keep your toes straight.

When you open the wings on the back to the left and right, the transformation to the atmospheric entry mode is complete.

Wrapped in biological wings, it transforms into a unique form. Although it is heavy, the display is relatively stable because it does not move any joints.

Next is the transformation to the neo-bird form (out-of-atmosphere mode). Place the legs in an inverted S shape and keep your toes extended. Change the angle of the arm and slide the armor of the forearm up.

① Lower the backpack and fix it to the rear armor. (2) Deploy the side armor and place it behind, and (3) change the angle of the wing arm.
Assemble the joint parts to the front armor, expand the wings from the side to the front and connect them to the joint parts.
Put your arms back inward and unfold the rear wings to the left and right.

The shield expands the internal arm and left and right joints.

After attaching the shield to the back and attaching the buster rifles to the left and right, the transformation to the neo-bird form (out-of-atmosphere mode) is complete.

Neobird form (out-atmospheric mode). It transforms into a sharp flight form. Since the strength of each part such as joints is high, it can be displayed without losing its shape. Please note that the shoulder armor does not have a locking mechanism and the angle can change easily.

Neobird form from various angles. Since it will be quite large, it is necessary to secure a certain amount of space when displaying it.

This size difference even if it is lined up with MG GM Command (colony battle specification).

Since it is heavy, it also puts stress on the columns, but since the joint parts are reasonably strong, it can be displayed without falling even if it is tilted.

To transform into the neo-bird form (atmospheric mode), simply change the placement of the wings. Large wings expand to the upper left and right.

Compared to the out-atmosphere mode, the biological wing is placed on the upper surface, changing to a more heterogeneous and unique style.

that’s all
I think that it is a kit with a good proportion balance while taking advantage of the characteristics of Wing Zero. There are few dissatisfaction points such as the difficulty of holding weapons and slack like the MG version, and it has evolved into a kit with a high degree of perfection such as a large amount of information due to the detailed parts composition.
As for the point to be worried about, there is some instability in holding the Buster rifle, so it would have been nice to have a fixed weapon holder if possible. Although it is a complicated deformation mechanism, the power and presence of the neo-bird form was unique to the real thing.
Since the joint strength is high, it is easy to pose and handle. Wing Zero is relatively blessed with kits, but it has the highest level of perfection among the three-dimensional kits, so I would like you to get it and enjoy its balance and good modeling.
