The Gunpla Builders World Cup 2015 will take place in about 20 cities across the world to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” robot anime franchise.
The annual model-building competition dedicated to plastic models from the Gundam franchise, collectively known as Gunpla, will be held for the fifth time this year.
Preliminary rounds will be held in Japan and 12 other countries and regions, including China, Taiwan, Australia, North America and Italy.
In Japan, entries are being accepted over the Internet for the regional round before acceptance at participating Bandai Hobby Pro-Shops across the country starting from July 1.
Last year, a Malaysian representative won in the Open Course division for model-makers aged 15 or older, while a South Korean representative took the Junior Course division for those 14 or younger.
In a departure from the previous edition, online voting this year will be counted in the second round of judging, on top of an expert panel, to select Japanese representatives.
The finals will take place in Japan in December.
