Hollywood live-action version of “GUNDAM” to be produced! LEGENDARY and Bandai Namco sign joint investment agreement

The live-action version of “GUNDAM” is starting!
BANDAI NAMCO Filmworks (headquarters: Suginami-ku, Tokyo) has signed a joint investment agreement with LEGENDARY (California, USA) to produce the first Hollywood live-action film of the “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, “GUNDAM (tentative title)”.

Since its broadcast in 1979, Gundam has been a pioneer of “real robot anime” with its realistic depiction of war and detailed scientific research, and has been supported around the world. To date, 25 TV series, 34 theatrical films, 27 OVAs, etc. have been produced, and it has become a major brand with a wide range of developments such as toys and games.

Directed and written by Jim Mickle
Produced by LEGENDARY PICTURES, the film was directed and written by Jim Mickle, who also directed the Netflix drama “Sweet Tooth”. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide, and expectations are high for how the world of Gundam will be visualized.

Establishing a North American corporation to expand brand value
As part of this project, the North American corporation “Bandai Namco Filmworks America, LLC” will be established on April 1, 2025. As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bandai Namco Group’s North American headquarters, it will aim to expand the licensing business in overseas markets and strengthen the brand.
