Mobile Suit Gundam Director Yoshiyuki Tomino receives Government Cultural Honor

Tomino created and directed the Mobile Suit Gundam anime in 1979, and he has since directed anime including Zeta Gundam, Gundam ZZ, Char’s Counterattack, Aura Battler Dunbine, and Gundam: Reconguista in G.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs Director’s Commendation is for people and organizations that have made outstanding achievements in cultural activities and contributed to the promotion of Japanese culture,
Awarded by the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs for those who have contributed to the dissemination of Japanese culture overseas and international cultural exchanges.
The candidates for the commendation are selected at the award meeting of the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs by experts.
The number of recipients in the Ordinary Year is 74.

Director Tomino received the award as “I have published many outstanding works as animation directors for many years and also made great contributions to the promotion of Japanese art culture”.
