gpo144’s remodeling work 1/144 Zaku III Custom (Zeon-Mars)

gpo144’s remodeling work 1/144 Zaku III Custom Zeon-Mars Specification (based on HGUC Zaku III Custom): many images, full detailed info and credits

From the Modeler:

For the third major form modification, I tried to make the Zaku III Custom into an original machine that looks like it could appear in A.O.Z Re-Boot.

Last week I made two works with major form modifications to the Zaku III series, and for the third installment, I tried to make the Zaku III Custom into an original machine that looks like it could appear in A.O.Z Re-Boot.

In A.O.Z Re-Boot, the mass-produced Zaku III for ground combat deployed on Zeon Mars, the “AMX-011G,” appears, so I tried to make it look like that. Since it’s the ground combat version of the “AMX-011S Zaku III Custom,” I gave it the model number “AMX-011SG.” …

This time, I focused on modifying the following parts of the HG Zaku III Custom.

1. Huge slippers
2. Gaps around the shins
3. Thin waist
4. Smaller upper body

I personally love the head design of the HG Zaku III Custom so much that I’m in awe of it, so this time I kept it almost the same. The antenna has been sharpened a little. The neck has been extended a little so that the chin can be retracted.
The upper body has been made 5 mm wider using plastic sheet.
The area under the bust has also been made more voluminous using plastic sheet.
The abdomen has been made 5 mm wider using plastic sheet.

The attachment of the abdominal power pipe to the back has been changed to reduce the thinness of the waist.
The lower body is almost the same as the kit. The front armor has been enlarged using plastic sheet.

The backpack has been slightly reshaped by removing the propellant tanks and turning it upside down. Then, a hover propulsion unit was scratched out of plastic sheet to resemble the Zeon Mars version of A.O.Z Re-Boot.

The backpack and thigh thrusters have been swapped. Also, the backpack thrusters have been made into a triple-barreled unit using surplus parts from another HG Zaku III.

The left shoulder armor is made from plastic sheet based on that of the Hobby Hizack. Spikes cut from the shield of a mass-produced Zaku III are attached.

The shoulder attachment has been moved up about 5 mm.
The square blocks on the shoulders have been enlarged using plastic sheet.
The shield on the right shoulder is almost the same as the kit.

The base of the legs has been carved down to make it more “V-shaped”.
The area below the knees has been enlarged by attaching plastic sheet here and there.
The front of the slippers was cut and then modified using plastic sheet to give them a form similar to that of a Sazabi or Dreissen.

The calf attachment was also modified so that the soles of the feet can more naturally touch the ground.

The armament has been replaced with a Jagd Doga Mega Gatling Gun, resembling the Zeon Mars version of A.O.Z Re-Boot. But… the size is completely different from the pin-up picture… (Hmm, it seems to be about 1/100 in size.)
As usual, plastic sheet has been attached to make it look like a clenched fist. Also, the sleeves (?) have been enlarged using plastic sheet.
Otherwise, plastic sheet has been attached here and there to increase the amount of detail.

As usual, I painted the entire thing with a brush using water-based hobby paints. I then inked it with watercolors, applied decals and finished it off with a matte top coat.
The main color is “H50 Mugwort” without mixing the colors! The dark green is “H60 Dark Green” and the grey is “XHUG08 Gundam Fact Grey”.
All the decals are Gundam decals. I pulled out an F2 Zaku with the same color scheme and antenna.

There’s such a difference in size that you’d think they were father and son.  This was the third original machine in the Zaku III series with a major form overhaul, the “Zaku III Kai Zeon Mars Specification”. I’d also like to eventually recreate the mass-produced Zaku III in a style similar to the A.O.Z Re-Boot pin-up (the design drawing around the legs is significantly different).
